Salisbury Steak Dinner

Growing up my mom would buy those family packs of “OnCor” Salisbury steak dinners for the family and serve them with mashed potatoes.  This was a good dinner as a kid.   Even today I would buy those and have them on hand for those nights I just didn’t feel like cooking.

Now I want to feed my family better ingredients and not so much processed.  I have learned how to make home-made Salisbury steak and it is better than the frozen ones.  This recipe is not hard to make and even can be done after work, or you can make these ahead of time and freeze them until you are ready to cook them.

Here is my version of Salisbury steak.

Ingredients                                img_1542.jpg

2 lbs ground beef

1 pack of onion soup mix

1/2 cup bread crumbs

1 egg

1/2 tsp mustard powder

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

salt and pepper to taste

Steps

Pre-heat oven 350 degrees

In a large bowl put the ground beef and add in all ingredients one at a time mixing them well.  If at this point you think the meat is to dry add another egg, or to wet add more bread crumbs.

Once the meat is well mixed grab a handful of ground beef and shape into an oval shape as best as you can.  Put on a baking dish and finish up the rest of the meat.

Please the baking dish in the oven and let cook for about 30 to 45 minutes or until steaks are cook through.

For the gravy

I just store-bought gravy and added in mushrooms to that and poured over the Salisbury steaks.

*note – you can also cook these on the stove top.   You can also use the ground turkey.
