Refried Beans

Hello everyone, you seen my money-saving tips blog where I cooked pinto beans from stretch to save money.  Well here are some refried beans that I made using one of those packs of the refried beans I made and this came out delicious.  There is nothing like making homemade food the flavors are so much more fresher.

This was super easy to make and better than take out.

1 tsp. minced garlic

2 cups of pinto beans (or 15.5 oz. if using a can)

½ – 1 tsp. cumin

½ – 1 tsp. onion powder

¼ cup chicken stock

Salt to taste

If using homemade beans put them in a pot and add in the stock. If using a can of pinto bean drain and rinse the beans then put them in a pot.

Put heat on medium low and add in the stock stir and mix well.

Then add in the garlic, cumin, onion powder and salt to taste. Stir the beans to make sure all the seasonings are incorporated.

Using an emulsion hand blender or you can put in a blender puree until beans are smooth, or you can leave some bean whole.

Give the beans a taste to make sure it has enough seasonings and then remove from heat and serve.

Plan With Me Feb 26th – Mar 4th

Hello everyone, I am back to do another plan with me.  I have also made some videos that is uploaded to my YouTube channel and that link is below, so go and check those videos out and subscribe while you are there.

Happy planner kit was by BrandysShop on Etsy.   The wash is from Target and Michael’s.

For my Mini Happy planner I used a kit from Dominion Paper co, but this shop is no longer open on Etsy (so sad).

For my Recollections Spiral planner I used a kit from StickerSters on Etsy, and the wash from Michael’s.

Money Saving Tip

I wanted to share another money-saving tip. I decided to make my own pinto beans instead of buying them by the can.

A can of pinto beans on sale is around .99. We use at least 2 cans a week making that 8 dollars a month if I am purchasing them at .99 cents a can.

I bought a bag of fresh pinto beans to cook.  A can of pinto bean is 15.5 ounces so I just rounded up and portioned them out to 2 cups per bag.

Now I paid $2.43 for this bag and I got 12 portions from it.   Making each portion about .25 cents each bag if I did my math right. Okay so .99 minus .25 equals to .74 cent savings per can, making that $6.00 per month savings.

Now if we do some math here you can see that by making the beans myself I saved almost 6 dollars for the month, but I also have enough for 2 or 3 months’ worth so that saving is about a $12.00 or more just for cooking the beans instead of buying them in a can. That is a lot of savings when making the beans yourself.

This does take time to cook and portion out the beans but I think the time is worth the savings. Also, the beans are fresh and no chemicals added because you did them and you know what is in the beans.

Cherry Pie Day

Today is cherry pie day.  Cherry pie is a common pie around the holidays.   I would say it is right up with the apple pie for a favorite of my family.

I hope you have a great national Cherry Pie day.
